USEFUL INFORMATION
Information Coronavirus – Covid-19
Covid-19 information:https://jp.ambafrance.org/-Coronavirus-COVID-19-
Passport
The passport must be valid for the entire duration of the stay for French, Belgian or Swiss passports.
If you are traveling with your children, they must absolutely have an individual passport, whatever their age. If the accompanying person is not one of the two parents, it will also be necessary to present an authorization to leave the territory signed by one of the two parents as well as a photocopy of the identity document of the signing parent.
When you arrive in Japan, your passport is checked, your fingerprints are taken digitally and a photo is taken.

Visa
No visa is required for travelers with a French, Belgian or Swiss passport. A 90-day temporary visa is automatically granted to you upon your arrival.
Electricity
The electric current is 100 volts. If it says "220 ~ 240v" on your devices, they will work but at half speed (your camera will take longer to charge for example).
To connect your devices, a simple plug adapter will suffice (European plug to American plug, two flat plugs).
Beware of buying electronic equipment locally, if it only works at 100 volts it will pose a risk of overheating when plugged in Europe.
Currency exchange
It is best to change your euros before departure because on site it is customary to pay exclusively in cash. Japan being a very safe country, it is not dangerous to have large sums of money on you.
On site, vending machines are rare. You can withdraw money at post offices, at ATMs in convinience stores (kombini in Japanese) such as Seven Eleven and Lawson. Except at Tokyo, many restaurants and stores do not accept credit cards. It is strongly advised not to change your money in banks, the delay being very long and the commission quite high.
Health
Japan has a very efficient health system, equal to France.
We advise you to bring with you a basic pharmacy against headaches, gastric problems and colds because you will not find the brands you usually use in local dispensaries. If certain medications require a prescription, you will need to have the prescription with you. Certain drugs classified as opiates and psychotropics require special authorization obtained from consular authorities.
The risks of food contamination after the disaster de Fukushima are no longer of concern since the strengthening of health controls and the lowering of permitted levels of radioactivity. Raw fish, meat, vegetables and fruit can be eaten normally, outside the safety zone surrounding the plant.
